We believe we all have the ability to do something that makes a difference. Our “something” doesn’t have to be big or complex, in fact for most of us it will be small and simple. Maybe your “something” is similar to Matthew, a young boy with a big goal and an even bigger heart.
A year ago, Matthew approached his mom with an idea. He wanted to help raise money to support education in Haiti. After much discussion and brainstorming, Matthew set a goal of raising $48 a month, $12 for each child in his family, which would help send 4 Haitian children to school in Haiti for a month. Matthew and his mom developed a monthly schedule of creative crafts and projects that Matthew could do and then “sell” to raise money for education in Haiti.
Matthew has sold lemonade, washed cars, decorated doors for Halloween, held a garage sale, made refrigerator magnets, made soap, and built wooden decorative items. Every project has been Matthew’s idea and something “doable” for his age and maturity. Thanks to his hard work, creativity, and certainly his cuteness, Matthew has raised over $4000 for education in Haiti over the last 12 months. That’s pretty impressive for an 8-year old.
Matthew has been an active part of changing the lives of children in Haiti by helping to provide a quality education. Matthew’s “something” is simple and small, but it is making a difference and that is what matters.
What is your “something”? What can you do, no matter how small it may seem, that could make a difference in the lives of the people of Haiti?
